By initiative of a group of members of some evangelic churches, in 1955, was created AEBAS in Florianopolis. This would be an association with aim to create an Evangelic Hospital.
The vision that motivated this group had two main justifications: The first was that, as Curitiba and other capitals in the country, Florianopolis needed a hospital that not only helped look out for the community in general, but also was a health home for the evangelic community. The second justification was based on the fact that at the time the continental part of the city had no presence of a Hospital or Health Center, all health attention was done in the Island; so AEBAS was searching for the solution to this lack of attention by building an Evangelic Hospital in the Estreito.
After the acquisition of two terrains in Pedro Cunha Road, the founders initiated their way by communicating their idea of a Hospital and Maternity to the Churches, acquiring this way associates and collaborators.
Due to this being an entrepreneurship project of big dimensions, and at that moment the entity had very little financial support to deliver their objectives, they decided to opt for initiating their activities throughout ambulatory care/outpatient services.
Following this path, in the decade of the 60’s AEBAS inaugurates its ambulatory activities in Felipe Schmidt Road, in Downtown, continuing after un Fúlvio Aducci Road, in Estreito and finally translating their services to their own Headquarters in Pedro Cunha Road, at the beginning of the 70’s decade.
In these Ambulatories attention was done with no cost and was aimed both for associates and the community in general, giving privilege to the poor community given the helping and beneficiary character of the Entity. It counted with trainees in nursing, medicine and dentistry that donated part of their time. AEBAS Ambulatory lent Medical Clinic, Pediatric, Gynecologic and Odontology services. It also realized laboratorial tests.
The sustainment of the activities occurred through the contribution of associates, and the conventions established by the Institution with the Health Secretary of the State. AEBAS continued with its activities in the Ambulatory, which functioned in convention with the City Council until 1992, when it was then transferred to the Urban Social Center of the Coloninha, after professional health evaluation from PMF dictated inadequate structural installations for the mission it had.
The insertion of AEBAS in the area of infant and adolescence attention took place in function to its activities in the medical ambulatory, when professionals that lent their service, mainly pediatric, noticed that the children that were being treated were being victims of a series of illnesses and health problems related to the life conditions they were being exposed to. All this being worsened by the fact that many of them were taken care of other people when their parents left to work, and were being abused.
Aware of these facts and the crescent demand of attention in this area, in the moment that it was reached by AMENCAR, ONG based in São Leopoldo – RS, AEBAS directives had no doubt that it was time to initiate a new phase of action in Florianopolis. This decision, taken with courage at the beginning of the 80’s, gave the entity the opportunity of, not only expand its involvement, but also become today in a reference of qualified work of integral attention to infants and adolescents throughout the actions of the CAS – Center of Social Assistance of AEBAS.
In the education area, AEBAS maintained from 1998 until 2010 the Florianopolis Christian School, initiative though which it was seeking to contribute to Florianopolis and the Region with a differentiated proposal of education focused on the Christian principles and ethics searching for a formation of humans with conscience of their role in the construction of a more just society.
The entity maintains latent redemption of the dream that it was founded with and in its future plans exists the challenge of the resumption of operations in the area of health fulfilling, one of the objectives that motivated its foundation.
